Nitrite - Test Result

NITRITE FOUND IN URINE

First pad

Many bacteria create nitrites, so your test result of NITRITES DETECTED indicates that you may have a urinary tract infection (UTI), kidney infection, kidney stones, blockage, or other problems.

Recommendation

Why do you need a nitrites in urine test? Detection of nitrite indicates the presence of bacteria in the genitourinary system that cause infection. Your provider may order a urinalysis as part of a routine checkup or if you have symptoms of a UTI.

Symptoms of a UTI may include:

  • Frequent urges to urinate, even when you have little urine in your bladder
  • Pain or burning when you urinate
  • Dark, cloudy, or reddish-colored urine
  • Bad-smelling urine
  • Weakness, fatigue, or confusion, mainly in older people
  • Fever, which may be a sign of a kidney infection

If after retesting you also find nitrites, please contact your physician. While an over-the-counter product like "Urinary Tract Defense Antibacterial Protection" may help alleviate mild UTI symptoms, professional evaluation is necessary.
